City car buyers love a hatchback models. Why?, because the good old hot hatchback offers accessible performance car motoring. The thing with hatchbacks is that they come in all shapes and sizes and there’s one to suit every taste and every budget. Here’s our list of the best of them in 2016 – 2017.
Suzuki Swift Sport
It is without a doubt the best way to have fun on a limited budget for the same price as a mid-range rival you can have the range-topping Swift with a fizzy 1.6 liter engine developing 134 brake horsepower. It has a rev hungry nature that adds to the fun of the perky acceleration and the weighty steering and adjustable handling, make it a really enjoyable little car to chuck around.
Ford Fiesta ST
While the Swift is fun in a raucous kind of a way, Ford Fiesta ST is a lot more poised and polished. It skips from been to bem with real Grace and accuracy and you always feel totally immersed in the action. With a hundred and eighty brake horsepower it doesn’t have as much power as competition like the Renault Sport Cleo and Peugeot 208 GTi, but the it’s handling completely out showings both so it really doesn’t matter.
Renault Sport Megane 275 Cup-S
It’s a very old piece of kit these days. But never the less it’s still the best front-wheel drive hot hatchback money can buy. Our favorite version the cut S has a stiff and suspension and limited slip differential to make it even sharper and more precise, but it’s the sensations you feel through the controls particularly the steering that really mark this out.
Ford Focus RS
It does absolutely everything a good hot hat should. It’s insanely fast it has unflappable grip and traction in all conditions and the controls are responsive and full of feel. It also has another trick up its sleeve in the form of drift mode which gets you sliding sideways in truly dramatic fashion. On the one hand this car is an incredibly impressive piece of engineering and on the other it is completely bonkers, we absolutely love it.
Mercedes Benz AMG A45
If you want your hot hatchback to give you the ultimate bragging rights look no further than the Mercedes AMG A45. Developing a truly staggering 376 brake horsepower from its turbocharged two-liter engine, it’s officially the hottest of all the hot hatchbacks. The acceleration is mind-blowing and annoyed is true fearsome and with four-wheel drive you have barely believable amounts of grip and traction. Yes you’ll pay top dollar but if you can afford it you will not be disappointed you.
